Teams: Brewers, Astros, Giants, Mets, Astros, Orioles
This is the second time Mr. Bass has signed for me ( April 26, 2011 ). Mr. Bass was an All-Star in 1986 and is one of the few players in the history of baseball to have hit a home run from both sides of the plate in the same game. I thank him very much for signing (again) and I'd like to say hello to my grandfather, my favorite Astros fan!
Mike Heath (C) - July 8, 2011 - Response time: 21 days
Teams: Yankees, A's, Cardinals, Tigers, Braves
Mr. Heath was an extremely versitile player. During his career he played every position in the American League except pitcher. He also caught Mike Warren's no-hitter in 1983. I thank him very much for signing.
Guy Hoffman (P) - July 8, 2011 - Response time: 45 days
Teams: White Sox, Cubs, Reds, Rangers, Orix BlueWave (Japan)
Mr. Hoffman played all or part of six seasons in the major leagues between 1979 and 1988. He also added a note on the card which, if you can forgive me awful cell phone camera reads "To Sam: Good Luck Always. Guy Hoffman." I thank him very much for signing and for the kind words.
Dennis Martinez (P) - July 8, 2011 - Response time: 15 days
Teams: Orioles, Expos, Indians, Mariners, Braves
Mr. Martinez, who had the nickname "El Presidente," was the first Nigaraguan in the Major Leagues. He was a four time All-Star and won the World Series with the Orioles in 1983. He is perhaps best known for pitching a perfect game on July 28, 1991. He is also one of only nine men ever to win over 100 games in both the American and National leagues. I thank him very much for signing.
Terry McGriff (C) - July 8, 2011 - Response time: 205 DAYS!!!
Teams: Reds, Astros, Marlins, Cardinals
Mr. McGriff is most notable here for shattering the record for the longest response. I mailed out Mr. McGriff's card on December 15th. I appreciate all responses though, however delayed so I thank him very much for signing. I would also like to, somewhat randomly, reach back deep into my past and say hello to Jeremy who was a big big fan of Terry McGriff's brother, Fred.
Joel McKeon (P) - July 8, 2011 - Response time: 18 days
Teams: White Sox
Mr. McKeon, no relation to Buck McKeon, was in the majors in 1987 and 1988. I thank him very much for signing.
Gerald Young (OF) - July 8, 2011 - Response time: 14 days
Teams: Astros, Rockies, Cardinals
In another Central American first today, Mr. Young was the first Honduran to play Major League baseball. Mr. Young never quite lived up to his potential and was considered a bit of a show boater during his time but was also known as an exceptionally good fielder. He was second in the NL in stolen bases in 1988. I thank him very much for signing and would like to, again, say hello to my grandfather.
