February 14, 2010 - HOF - 50 Cards!

Before I come to the matter at hand, a brief prequel.  Before I started this project, I was sending out cards to current MLB players.  It's because of the disappointing number of responses that my friend suggested I try the 1988 set.  But, sometimes, and sometimes much later, you get lucky.  Along with my entry below, I received a response from Larry "Chipper" Jones.  I mailed it out on February 13, 2010 and got a response on February 11, 2011.  It's not a leap year, so that's 363 days, easily my longest response so far.  I thank him for signing.  Now, onto the show!

There is only one player from 1988 still playing (Jamie Moyer) and many of these guys have been retired for some years.  As such, it isn't surprising that a number of them are in the hall of fame.  It's not surprising that these guys often charge for their autographs.  What is surprising, is that some of them don't.  Today I got my first hall of famer back!

Mr. Gossage is a 9x All-Star and a World Series champion (1978).  He was the Relief Man of the Year that same year and, in 2008, was inducted in the Professional Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY.  I cannot thank him enough for signing.
