January 11, 2011 - Cy Young

I came home on Monday night and discovered four more cards in my mailbox, including a personalized card and probably the coolest response I've received so far!

Doc Edwards (Manager) - January 10, 2010 - Response time: 26 days

Teams (Player): Indians, A's, Yankees and Phillies
Teams (Manager): Indians

Mr. Edwards actually wrote me a note back.  My last name is Rowe and he made note of that:

Sam - When I worked for the Orioles I worked with hitting coach Ralph Rowe, pitching coach Ken Rowe and a young pitcher with the name of Tom Rowe.  I am still in touch with Ken and Tommy.  I was the Triple [A] Manager in Rochester, NY [for] 3yrs, 1979-1980+1981.

That is absolutely awesome.  I thank him so much for taking the time to sign and write back.

Doug Drabek (P) - January 10, 2011 - Response time: 39 days

Teams: Yankees, Pirates, White Sox, Astros, Orioles

Mr. Drabek won the Cy Young award in 1990 and was an All-Star in 1994.  He personalized the card.  I thank him very much for signing.

Steve Shields (P) - January 10, 2011 - Response time: 24 days

Teams: Braves, Royals, Mainers, Yankees, Twins

Tom Kelly (Manager) - January 10, 2011 - Response time: 56 days

Teams (Player): Twins
Teams (Manager): Twins

Mr. Kelly is proof positive that you don't have to be a good player to be a good manager.  With a Major League playing career of only 61 days Mr. Kelly went on to win two World Series as a manager (1987 and 1991[the second coming at the expense of my then beloved Braves]) and win the Manager of the Year Award in 1991.  The modern AL Central juggernaut Twins were built by Tom Kelly.
